Learn to Skate – FREE Into Program (Sept 22 – Oct 15)

A welcoming, beginner-friendly introduction to roller skating and basic roller derby skills. 

Who This Program Is For: Absolute beginners, new skaters, or anyone curious about roller derby. 

Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sept 22 to Oct 15. (Dates and times subject to change.)

What You’ll Learn:

          Basic roller skating skills

          Safe falling and stopping techniques

          Into to derby movement and footwork

What’s Included:

          Free Gear Rentals (Limited Availability)

          Supportive, structured instruction

          A safe, inclusive learning environment

          Ages 16+. All genders welcome.

Requirments:

          Purchase Roller Derby Canada insurance ($30). Link: https://rdcservices.org/

          Bring a fitted mouth guard. Recommended: CCM SISU 

          Review and Sign TRDA Participation Agreement and any other required policies.

A next-step program introducing the sport, rules, strategy, and contact derby skills. 

Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Oct 20 to Nov 12. (Dates and times subject to change.)

What You’ll Learn:

          Basic derby rules

          Pack work, and basic strategy

          Positional blocking

          Communication and teamwork skills

          How games function and how teams operate

What’s Included:

          Gear Rentals (Limited Availability)

          Supportive, structured instruction

          A safe, inclusive learning environment

          Ages 16+. All genders welcome.

Participation Note: This program may be restricted based on ability and is designed for participants with stronger skating backgrounds such as: figure skaters, ringette players, hockey players and other experienced recreational skaters.

           Safety

           Ability to participate in team practices

           Commitment to TRDA values and expectations

Completion of Learn to Skate and Learn to Derby prepares participants for team intake. Intake decisions consider:

Once you’re ready to skate with the team, you’ll need your own gear. We recommend S1 and Triple Eight pads.

To participate in derby you will need:

           Helmet: Certified multi‑impact (e.g., S1, Triple Eight, Bauer, CCM)

           Mouth Guard: CCM SISU (Sportchek) or similar fitted guard

           Knee Pads: High‑impact derby or skate‑rated pads

           Elbow Pads: Durable, secure fit

           Wrist Guards: Rigid support with palm protection

           Quad Skates: Derby‑appropriate boots, plates and wheels

           Toe Stops: Non-marking, adjustable, high‑quality stoppers

           Optional: Skate tools, extra wheels, bearings, athletic tape
